Omar Moreno Gil is a veteran llanero harpist, devoted teacher of the harp, and gracious host. I visited him in March, 2008, at his home in Barinas. Here is his rendition of Linda Barinas, a very famous tune that "emblematic" of the tradition.
During my visit with him, Moreno talked at length about the "explosion" of popularity in the 1960's. He is friendly with many of the famous and not-so-famous musicians from that era, when recordings brought the regional "musica llanera" to national attention.
The visit was arranged by Adolfo Cardozo as a feature of ARPATUR III, a collaboration in cultural tourism by Harping for Harmony Foundation and LOMACRILLAN (Adolfo's tourism enterprise).
